Public schools in Texas are administered by Independent School Districts (ISDs). An ISD is separate from other government entities (thus independent) and exists solely to run the public schools within its territory. Overall leadership of an ISD is entrusted to an elected school board. Funding is from a mix of property taxes levied by an ISD and funding from the State government.<\/SPAN><\/P>
